Dividend Income Calculator

In brief

Estimate income from an entered investment and distribution rate—or the investment required for a target income. “Distribution” is used in the results because ETF cash payments are not always composed entirely of dividends.

How the dividend-income estimate works

Annual distribution estimate: amount invested × entered annual distribution rate. Monthly and quarterly figures are simple averages; actual payment amounts and schedules can differ.

Required investment: target annual income ÷ entered distribution rate. The reinvestment scenario applies one-twelfth of the entered rate monthly, reinvests that cash, and adds any entered monthly investment. It assumes no price movement and an unchanged distribution rate.

Distributions can be reduced or eliminated. They are not free return: an investment’s price can adjust when a distribution is paid. Taxes, fees, price changes, distribution growth, and return of capital are omitted. Option-income fund payments may include option premium, dividends, capital gains, interest, or return of capital.
