How this compound-interest estimate works
The calculator converts the entered annual return and annual fee into monthly rates, combines them, and applies the resulting net monthly rate. Contributions are added at the end of each month.
Formula: each month’s ending balance equals the prior balance multiplied by one plus the net monthly rate, plus that month’s contribution. The inflation-adjusted figure divides the ending balance by cumulative entered inflation.
Returns, inflation, fees, and contribution changes are assumptions. Real investments fluctuate, returns do not arrive evenly, taxes and trading costs are omitted, and losses can occur.
